One of the newest advancements in LASIK technology is the development of the Wavefront Analyzer. This measures your eyes natural ability to focus light and creates a 3D map of your eye based on the results. Using Wavefront allows for extremely precise, individualized measurements not possible with traditional LASIK. The map created is then used to guide the laser during your procedure. It is this technology which is known as custom LASIK.
While traditional LASIK is still an excellent option for patients with lower order aberrations (nearsightedness, farsightedness and astigmatism) there are also higher order aberrations (often linked to halos and visual glare) which can only be corrected with custom LASIK and the use of the Wavefront Analyzer.
During your consultation, your LASIK surgeon will advise you on the best course of vision correction treatment. While custom LASIK is more expensive than conventional, it can often correct your vision to a better visual acuity than glasses or contacts.
