There are a few important things to keep in mind for your procedure day that will help to make sure that things run smoothly for you. For starters, you should arrive for your procedure as well rested and relaxed as possible. It is natural to feel nervous or anxious about your procedure, and if you have any last minute questions, be sure to ask. Avoid make up, lotions, creams, hair spray and perfumes. You should make sure to avoid alcohol or any medications that will make you drowsy about 24 hours prior to your procedure. Otherwise there are no restrictions on eating and taking medication prior to your procedure.
In preparation for your procedure a clinician will clean your eye lashes and eye lids with antibiotic solution. You will also receive anti-inflammatory and anaesthetic drops, and a mild sedative may be given. Most patients report that their procedure is completely painless; however others have reported feeling pressure or vibrations. Once you are ready you will be escorted to your LASIK treatment suite. Your surgeon will use the extensive mapping from your consultation to map the laser via computer.
It is wise to designate about 2-4 hours for your procedure, from prep time to a brief observation period afterwards. It is also important to make arrangements to have a friend or family member drive you home. If that is not possible you will want to make alternative travel arrangements. Most patients report a dramatic visual improvement after returning home and having a short nap. Your doctor may also advise that you wear protective eye shields for a short time afterward and during certain activities while recovering.

My daughter is coming from Japan for the surgery. HOw soon before she
can safely fly back to Japan

This would be dependent on the type of procedure recommended and a normal post op healing response. There are no restrictions on flying even the day after having had Custom Intralase Lasik. However, if possible, it would be a good idea to wait until after the first post op check up on the 5th or 6th day after Lasik. Once back home in Japan, she would still need to see an eye doctor to have the recommended follow up care.

Some people are saying “You will see better then you did without your glasses, but you’ll never see as clear as you did with glasses” ?? Is this true,?with just a mild prescription?

It can depend on many different factors including your own healing process and the type of LASIK procedure you have, as well as the amount of correction needed. Best thing to do Tanya is come in for a free consultation, in which you discuss any concerns you have with the surgeon and find out what type of procedure will yield the best correction results. There is no obligation in coming in for a consult, as the best person to answer all your LASIK questions is the surgeons

I have already. I have actually booked my surgery for Jan. Now however I am hesitating. Hearing stories from some people who have had this surgery and they frequently experience halos, star bursts, floaters and night time vision problems, some of these I already suffer from as well as dry eye which is also a side affect post surgery. I am re considering if this is the thing for me.

Hi Tanya, can you tell me what center you are scheduled to have your procedure done at?
December 2, 2011 at 1:16 pm
The TLC Center on Yonge St. with Dr. Nick Nianiaris. I am impressed with the center as well as Dr. Nianiaris just don’t think it is right procedure for me at the time, maybe in the future I will re visit it again.

I have my appointment on 1/4/12. After that how long will it take for me to have the surgery?
December 19, 2011 at 10:39 am
It depends on the results of your eye exam during your consultation and the scheduling availability at the center you have chosen. If you are a frequent contact lens wearer, you may have to be out of your lenses for a certain amount of time before your procedure can be performed, however they will advise you of this during your first appointment. Generally speaking though you should be able to book your procedure shortly after.

I have dry eyes and split vision (up and down, not side to side). Is there a Lasik procedure that can restore my vision so I do not have to wear glasses?
Thanks,
Linda

Linda – we would recommend that you bring this question to the attention of your eye doctor directly.
The conditions that you describe would need a thorough evaluation in order to determine the best course of action for your specific situation. Your eye doctor would also have access to your complete ocular health history and would be the best resource to help you in your decision to have LASIK.
If you don’t have a local eye doctor you can find a TLC Affiliated eye doctor in your area by visiting http://www.tlcvision.com/search/doctors/
